VERSUS is a bi-monthly live music night, where bands and musicians perform on the same stage at the same time, dueling track for track and mixing it up together, making each Versus a uniquely special one-time event.

November's Versus features the masked mentalism of The Leg, the lush, gothic fragility of Lipsync for a Lullaby and the "two-headed riff machine" that is Your Loyal Subjects. A night of genre-bending transmutation underpinned by incredible musicianship that will have you transfixed and careening from heartbreak to sublime insanity. A special performance by sonic poet Andy Brown ups the ante to make this a truly unmissable event.

Versus @ The Voodoo Rooms 12 November 2009 The Leg vs Your Loyal Subjects vs Lipsync for a Lullaby

The Leg: Titled after a (reportedly) real Tina Turner voodoo doll that usually accompanies their live shows, and is exactly as crazy as you might expect. With their dark post-punk style, The Leg have a created a completely unique record, delivering nothing but the unexpected in their sound, lyrics and performance. Altogether, it feels like a record that came straight from the troubled minds of a daring group of musicians who are, at all times, running naked and screaming from the mainstream.

Your Loyal Subjects: Oscar and Doug play hiNRG rock and roll for the proles.  They formed in summer 2008 having lived and raved in Edinburgh's greatest party flat (TM).  At odds with the predominantly supermarket indie of the Capital they embarked on a pure music journey embracing all that was most explosive and decadent about the rock and roll of the past 5 decades. To date they have released songs on the critically praised PRE2 compilation and most recently on the much touted Ten Tracks online distribution stream (Jan 09). Music critics from The Skinny described them as an "awesome two headed riff machine".  Pete Shelley from Plastic Ashtray likened them to Pixies and Shellac "very good indeed".  They have supported the likes of Fangs and Desalvo in Edinburgh.  They have been played on BBC Radio 1’s Session in Scotland and XFM Scotland. They aim to record and release their debut album in 2010.

Lipsync for a Lullaby: Lipsync for a Lullaby is a strings-driven 4-piece outfit based in Edinburgh, UK. The band is Atzi(voice, cello, guitar), Dave(Viola, voice), Balazs(Doublebass, voice), and Sam(Drums). 2008 has seen Lipsync headline packed events in Edinburgh such as Neue Liebe and Acoustic Cafe as well as playing regular gigs at venues including Henry's Cellar Bar. Lipsync's post-rock influenced sound has been described as "Edinburgh's answer to Sigur Ros" by local promoters. In 2009 Lipsync followed classical harmonies, beats of slo-core, remains of post-rock, ashes of punk, and modernist intervals. In the end the band quickly morphed from heavy guitars into all strings. Their songs are loud and long. "invigorating mix of light and shade. amongst the very best new bands in Edinburgh. Big, big music!" ----James Igoe, Secret CDs
